Anyone who has experienced an ear lobe "tear" trauma or whose lobe size and shape has been modified due to an excessive use of earrings, causing either an increase in the size of the hole or even the total "splitting" of the lobe.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE
This surgery simply consists in reconstructing the ear lobe and closing the existing holes to the greatest possible extent.
POST-OPERATIVE PHASE AND CONVALESCENCE
At the end of the procedure suture stitches and bandages will be applied. This procedure can be performed in ambulatory care facilities under local anesthesia.
The patient doesn't usually feel any post-operative pain.
The stitches will be removed within 7-10 days and in case the patient is willing to wear earrings again, the new hole should not be made before 3-6 months from the operation.
Intense physical activities and exercises must be suspended for about 15 days.
RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS
Just as after every surgical procedure some bleeding might occur. If it doesn't stop spontaneously or after the first wound dressing performed by the medical staff, it is necessary to take the patient back into the operating room and stop the haemorrhage. This might sound scary and annoying, but it has to be done in order to avoid permanent hematomas, and has no effects on a correctly performed surgery whatsoever.
If the procedure is performed in a safe environment (Ambulatory Care Facilities, Hospital operating rooms, Clinics and accredited Extended Care Facilities) and by qualified physicians (surgeon, surgical technologist) there is no risk of major complications, as long as the patient follows thoroughly all the post-operative instructions given by the medical staff.
COSTS
This surgical correction usually costs from 500€ up to 1.200€.
