BOTULINUM TOXIN
(medical aesthetic treatment of face wrinkles)

GENERAL INFORMATION
WHO CAN UNDERGO THIS PROCEDURE?

Anyone over 18 whose face is marked by superficial wrinkles.
Considered (erroneously) dangerous for a long time, this treatment produces a natural stretching of superficial facial wrinkles (not deep furrows).
It is always recommended to first discuss with the doctor all the options available among the different techniques and materials in order to clarify every doubt and get the best result possible.

SAFETY

EVERY medical treatment must be performed in medical or surgical ambulatory care facilities, in full respect of hygienic norms, and this one is no exception. The facility must be equipped to face possible (rare but dangerous) reactions to the treatment itself, and all its sanitary authorizations should be prominently displayed and verifiable.
Make sure what kind and how much of the substance is going to be used asking the doctor anything you need to know.
DO NOT TRUST (!) anyone who performs medical procedures in inadequate facilities (if it is no emergency as in case of first aid).

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE

Each ambulatory session consists in local microinjections of botulinum toxin type A in the areas to be treated.
In my opinion the best results are achieved within the "upper face" area (high part of the face) area, especially the frontal area and "crow's feet".
During the treatment the patient will experience pain within the treated areas which can be compared to an intense burning sensation that quickly goes away, therefore no anaesthesia is needed. The patient may however choose to undergo the treatment after topical applications of creams containing anaesthetic substances, which must be applied at least 30-40 minutes before starting the treatment in order to let the cream have enough time to be absorbed by the skin and be effective.

DURATION AND REPEATABILITY

At the end of the treatment the treated area may become a little reddish/swollen, but it usually gets back to normal after a few hours.
It may take a few days for the treatment to bring about the desired effect, which usually lasts from 3 up to 5 months, depending on the patient's predisposition.

COSTS

Considering the wide range of prices of the substance used, the expenses to manage an adequate facility and of course the amount of the substance used, this treatment can cost from 250€ up to 750€.
